It is often argued that robots and automation will play a major role in future homes, while others believe that this development may have negative effects. Although some concerns have been raised about the overdependence on technology, I believe it is a positive development. This essay will discuss both the benefits and drawbacks before concluding that automation is beneficial.
Starting advantages, one of the most significant advantages is that robots can perform household tasks such as cleaning and cooking efficiently. This helps people save time and reduce physical effort. A key benefit worth mentioning is that automation can assist elderly or disabled people in managing their daily activities more easily. Another major advantage is that robots can provide companionship, which may help reduce loneliness for individuals living alone.
On the other hand, a potential drawback is that people may become too dependent on technology. Despite the benefits, there are some notable disadvantages. For example, excessive reliance on robots could reduce human interaction and social skills. However, this development is not without its problems, as the high cost of advanced technology may make it unaffordable for many people.

In conclusion, while there are valid concerns about dependency and cost, the advantages make it a worthwhile development. To sum up, with proper use and control, robots and automation will greatly improve the quality of life in future homes.

Task Response 5
Evaluation
The essay responds to the question and takes a clear position, but it does not meet the minimum word count (226 out of 250 required). The arguments are only briefly mentioned with little elaboration or supporting evidence. Both benefits and drawbacks are listed, but the discussion is superficial. The conclusion is present but repetitive.
Examples
Benefits: 'robots can perform household tasks... assist elderly... provide companionship.' Drawbacks: 'people may become too dependent... high cost.' These points are not expanded with examples or reasoning.
How to Improve
Expand each main idea with specific examples or scenarios. Ensure the essay reaches at least 250 words by adding more detailed explanation, real-life applications, or counterarguments. Avoid simply listing points.
Coherence and Cohesion 5
Evaluation
The essay has a basic structure (introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion). However, transitions between ideas are weak and sometimes abrupt (e.g., 'Starting advantages' followed by 'On the other hand'). The overuse of phrases like 'Another major advantage' and 'To sum up' makes the flow mechanical. Paragraphs are not fully developed.
Examples
'Starting advantages, one of the most significant advantages is...' This repetition is awkward. The second body paragraph lacks a clear topic sentence and jumps between ideas.
How to Improve
Use clearer topic sentences for each paragraph. Improve logical linking: use a variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'Nevertheless'). Ensure each paragraph has a central focus and is well-connected to the next.
Lexical Resource 4.5
Evaluation
The vocabulary is adequate but limited in range and precision. There is some repetition (e.g., 'advantages' used three times in one paragraph). Collocations are simple (e.g., 'save time', 'reduce physical effort'). No attempts at less common or more sophisticated vocabulary. Phrasing like 'Starting advantages' is ungrammatical.
Examples
'robots can provide companionship' – simple. 'overdependence on technology' – acceptable but basic. 'this development is not without its problems' – formulaic.
How to Improve
Vary word choices (e.g., use 'benefits', 'merits', 'drawbacks', 'shortcomings'). Incorporate topic-specific vocabulary like 'autonomous systems', 'assistive technology', 'social isolation'. Avoid repetitive structures and informal phrases like 'Starting advantages'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy 5
Evaluation
Sentence structures are mostly simple with some attempts at complex sentences (e.g., 'Although some concerns have been raised...'). There are several grammatical errors and awkward constructions: 'Starting advantages' (incorrect), 'A key benefit worth mentioning is that...' (awkward), 'Despite the benefits, there are some notable disadvantages' (correct but simple). Punctuation is basic but mostly accurate. Overall, the range is narrow and errors occur.
Examples
'This essay will discuss both the benefits and drawbacks before concluding that automation is beneficial.' – clear but simple. 'people may become too dependent on technology' – grammatically correct. 'On the other hand, a potential drawback is that people may become too dependent on technology.' – repetitive phrasing.
How to Improve
Practice using a variety of sentence structures: conditional sentences, relative clauses, passive voice. Proofread for awkward openings like 'Starting advantages'. Use more complex subordination to link ideas. Aim for error-free sentences to achieve a higher band.
