Parents are often regarded as the first and most important teachers in a child’s life. I strongly agree with the view that parents serve as the best teachers because they influence their children’s moral development, behaviour, and learning habits from an early age.
Firstly, parents play a vital role in teaching values and life skills that cannot be fully learned at school. Qualities such as honesty, discipline, respect, and empathy are usually developed at home through daily interactions. Children closely observe their parents and often imitate their actions. For example, when parents treat others with kindness and responsibility, children are more likely to adopt the same behaviour. These lessons shape a child’s character and help them become responsible members of society.
Secondly, parents provide continuous guidance and emotional support, which is essential for a child’s confidence and growth. Unlike schoolteachers, who must divide their attention among many students, parents can focus entirely on their own children. They understand their child’s strengths and weaknesses and can offer personalised help. For instance, a parent may spend extra time helping a child improve in a difficult subject or encouraging them during stressful situations. This support helps children develop resilience and a positive attitude toward learning.
Admittedly, schools and professional teachers are important in providing academic knowledge and structured education. However, without strong parental involvement, children may lack motivation, discipline, and emotional stability.
In conclusion, although formal education is necessary, parents are the best teachers because they lay the foundation for moral values, emotional well-being, and lifelong learning. Their influence continues well beyond the classroom and plays a crucial role in shaping a child’s futu

Task Response7.5
Evaluation
The candidate presents a clear position throughout (strongly agrees). Main ideas are relevant and extended with explanations and examples (moral values, emotional support). The essay acknowledges the opposing view (role of schools) but does not develop it in detail. The conclusion effectively summarizes the stance.
Examples
Examples include children imitating parental behaviour like kindness, and parents providing personalised help with a difficult subject.
How to Improve
To reach a higher band, the essay could explore the limitation of parents as teachers (e.g., potential bias, lack of specialist knowledge) in a more balanced way before reaffirming the position.
Coherence & Cohesion7.5
Evaluation
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression: introduction, two main body paragraphs, a concession, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively and sufficiently. Cohesive devices are used appropriately (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'For example', 'However', 'In conclusion').
Examples
Effective use of linking words: 'Firstly...', 'For example...', 'Secondly...', 'Admittedly...', 'In conclusion...'. The final sentence is cut off, which slightly disrupts the conclusion.
How to Improve
Ensure the conclusion is fully written. While linking is good, using a wider range of discourse markers (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', 'As a result') could enhance cohesion further.
Lexical Resource7
Evaluation
Vocabulary is adequate for the task and used with reasonable flexibility. There is some use of less common items (e.g., 'moral development', 'resilience', 'personalised', 'emotional stability'). However, there is some repetition (e.g., 'teachers', 'parents', 'children') and phrasing can be quite simple.
Examples
Appropriate vocabulary: 'moral development', 'empathy', 'resilience', 'structured education'. Some repetition of core topic words is evident.
How to Improve
Aim to use more synonyms and collocations (e.g., 'guardians', 'caregivers', 'offspring', 'youngsters'; 'instil values', 'foster development') to reduce repetition and demonstrate a wider lexical range.
Grammatical Range & Accuracy7.5
Evaluation
A mix of simple and complex sentence forms is used with good control. Grammar and punctuation are generally accurate. Errors are rare and do not impede communication. The final sentence is incomplete, which is a noticeable but isolated error.
Examples
Accurate complex sentences: 'Qualities such as honesty... are usually developed at home through daily interactions.' 'When parents treat others with kindness... children are more likely to adopt the same behaviour.' The essay ends mid-word: 'child’s futu'.
How to Improve
Proofread carefully to avoid minor slips and incomplete sentences. To aim for a Band 8, incorporate a wider variety of complex structures (e.g., conditional sentences, more nuanced nominal clauses) with consistent accuracy.
