I strongly agree that parents serve as the best teachers for their children, especially during the early stages of life. While schools and society play important roles in a child’s development, the foundation of a child’s character, values, and behaviour is primarily shaped at home.
Firstly, parents are a child’s first point of contact with the world. From birth, children begin to learn by observing and imitating their parents. Simple habits such as speaking politely, showing respect, and maintaining discipline are often acquired at home long before formal education begins. For example, a child raised in a home where honesty and kindness are emphasized is more likely to display those qualities in school and in social settings.
Secondly, parents provide continuous guidance and emotional support. Unlike teachers, who interact with children for limited hours, parents are involved in their children’s daily lives. This constant presence allows them to understand their children’s strengths, weaknesses, and unique personalities. As a result, they can tailor their teaching and discipline methods to suit each child. For instance, a parent who notices that their child struggles with confidence can encourage and support them in ways that a classroom teacher may not have the time to do.
Moreover, parents instill cultural, moral, and religious values that shape a child’s identity. These values often influence major life decisions and behaviour patterns in adulthood. For example, children raised in homes that prioritize responsibility and hard work are more likely to grow into disciplined and successful individuals.
However, it is important to acknowledge that not all parents have the knowledge or resources to guide their children effectively in academic matters. This is where schools and professional educators play a complementary role. Nevertheless, even in such cases, the emotional and moral guidance provided by parents remains irreplaceable.
In conclusion, although teachers and society contribute significantly to a child’s development, parents remain the most influential educators. Their early and continuous involvement in a child’s life makes them the best teachers, particularly in shaping character, values, and behaviour.

Task Response8.5
Evaluation
The response fully addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear agreement with the statement. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant reasons and examples, and a counterpoint is acknowledged, demonstrating a balanced approach.
Examples
Examples include children learning polite speech and values like honesty from parents, and how parents provide tailored emotional support. The counterpoint on academic limitations is briefly mentioned.
How to Improve
To reach Band 9, consider exploring the counterargument more deeply or discussing specific situations where parents might not be effective teachers, though the current coverage is sufficient for a high band.
Coherence & Cohesion8.5
Evaluation
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used effectively to link ideas, and paragraphing is appropriate.
Examples
Use of sequencers like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and contrastive 'However' to structure the argument. The flow from one idea to the next is smooth, with clear topic sentences.
How to Improve
Vary cohesive devices further (e.g., using 'In addition', 'Consequently') for added sophistication, but this is already strong for Band 8.5.
Lexical Resource8
Evaluation
Vocabulary is generally precise and varied, with some less common lexical items used accurately. There are no significant errors in word choice or collocation.
Examples
Words like 'foundation', 'instill', 'complementary', 'irreplaceable', and collocations such as 'emotional support' and 'moral guidance' demonstrate good control.
How to Improve
Incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary (e.g., 'pedagogy', 'cognitive development') to enhance lexical range and precision, aiming for Band 9.
Grammatical Range & Accuracy8.5
Evaluation
A wide range of grammatical structures is used with flexibility and control. Sentences are complex and accurate, with no noticeable errors in grammar or punctuation.
Examples
Complex sentences: 'While schools and society play important roles...', 'This constant presence allows them to understand their children’s strengths...'. Accurate use of relative clauses and conditional structures.
How to Improve
Maintain this high level of accuracy. For Band 9, ensure consistent use of sophisticated structures across the entire essay, though this is already exemplary.
