A generation ago, students were generally more disciplined and respectful in educational institutions. However, poor student behaviour has now become a major concern in many schools across the world. This essay will look at the core reasons for this and propose some solid solutions.
One of the main causes of the problem is that many parents are too busy to properly supervise their children. By this I mean that in modern families, parents often spend long hours at work and have little time to guide their children’s behaviour or monitor their activities. As a result, students may become rude, irresponsible, or addicted to social media and video games. For example, some teenagers spend most of their time online instead of focusing on studies and moral values. The solution is for parents to spend more quality time with their children and teach them discipline from an early age.
Another problem is that schools sometimes fail to maintain strict rules and effective discipline systems. That is to say, some teachers are unable to control classrooms because of overcrowding or lack of support from school management. Consequently, students may not respect teachers or school regulations. To tackle this issue, schools should introduce clear behavioural policies, provide counselling services, and encourage teachers to build positive relationships with students.
A third cause of the problem is the negative influence of modern media and peer pressure. To be more precise, young people are often influenced by violent content, inappropriate online trends, or friends who engage in bad behaviour. They may imitate such actions in school without understanding the consequences. As a result, bullying, disrespect, and aggressive behaviour can increase among students. The way forward could be to educate students about responsible media use and encourage participation in sports and extracurricular activities.
To sum up, student misbehaviour has become a growing issue in schools due to reasons such as lack of parental guidance, weak school discipline, and negative social influences. This is a serious problem, and unless parents, schools, and society work together to provide guidance, strict rules, and positive activities, the situation may become worse. My view is that the main responsibility for solving the problem lies with both parents and educational institutions.

Task Response8
Evaluation
The essay directly answers both parts of the question: causes (lack of parental supervision, weak school discipline, negative media/peer influence) and solutions (more quality time with parents, stricter school policies, media education). All ideas are relevant and well-developed with examples.
Examples
Causes: 'many parents are too busy to properly supervise their children' and 'schools sometimes fail to maintain strict rules'. Solutions: 'The solution is for parents to spend more quality time' and 'schools should introduce clear behavioural policies'.
How to Improve
To reach a higher band, consider exploring a wider range of causes or providing more specific, real-world examples (e.g., studies or statistics). Avoid overly general statements like 'some teenagers' without further detail.
Coherence & Cohesion8
Evaluation
The essay has a clear structure: introduction, three body paragraphs (each with a cause and solution), and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used effectively ('One of the main causes...', 'Another problem...', 'A third cause...', 'To sum up'). Paragraphing is logical and ideas flow smoothly.
Examples
Transition phrases like 'By this I mean', 'That is to say', and 'To be more precise' help clarify points. The conclusion restates causes and solutions succinctly.
How to Improve
Use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'moreover') to avoid repetition. Also, ensure that each body paragraph has a clear topic sentence linking back to the main question.
Lexical Resource7.5
Evaluation
Vocabulary is appropriate and conveys meaning clearly. Words like 'disciplined', 'supervise', 'overcrowding', 'counselling services', and 'aggressive behaviour' show a good range. However, some phrases are repetitive ('behaviour' appears multiple times) and not highly sophisticated.
Examples
Good: 'addicted to social media', 'inappropriate online trends', 'moral values'. Weaker: 'solid solutions' is a bit informal; 'properly supervise' could be replaced with 'effectively monitor'.
How to Improve
Incorporate more varied academic vocabulary (e.g., 'conducive learning environment', 'detrimental effects', 'proactive measures'). Use synonyms for 'behaviour' such as 'conduct', 'discipline', 'attitude'. Avoid informal expressions like 'By this I mean'.
Grammatical Range & Accuracy7.5
Evaluation
The essay demonstrates a good range of sentence structures, including complex sentences ('unless parents, schools, and society work together...') and conditional forms. Grammar is mostly accurate with only minor errors. Punctuation and spelling are correct.
Examples
Correct complex sentence: 'As a result, students may become rude, irresponsible, or addicted to social media and video games.' Minor issue: 'The solution is for parents to spend more quality time with their children and teach them discipline from an early age' – this could be more concise but is grammatically fine.
How to Improve
Work on varying sentence openings (e.g., start with adverbial clauses) and using more passive structures where appropriate. Avoid a few informal constructs like 'By this I mean' – replace with 'In other words' or 'That is'. Overall, accuracy is high; aim for greater complexity (e.g., relative clauses, participle phrases).
