When it comes to the primary aim of museums, there are different opinions on the matter. It is important to explore both sides of the argument to gain a comprehensive understanding. In this essay, both sides of the topic will be dicussed followed by my opinion.
Supporters of museums being used for eduational purposes argue that it is the primary and main goal of museums. This is because they display artifacts and specimens for study purposes. For instance the Great Zimbabwe museum site that has cultural artifacts such as gold beads ,ivory and ceremonial spears which can be used as reference when studying history, making it easy for students to grasp the concepts.
Additionally, they inspire learners to think in new ways.Exhibits can spark creativity, information ans adventure.Theytake learning out of the text book and bring it into real life through interactive exhits and hands on experience.
On the other hand, opponents of this topic contend that museums should be used for entertainment purposes. This means, museums offer experiences that we can not find at home such as live perfomances by theater arts and scavenger hunt for children. This can be seen for example in Geat Zimbawe where there is a group of traditional dancers that entertain tourists and local visitors.
After considering bot sides of the argument ,I am inclined to support that the primary goal of museums is to educate people.I find the arguments in favour of museums for educational purposes more compelling because its has a significant impact on the educational background of learners. In my opinion the benefits of museum as education centers outweigh the drawbacks.
