Governments provide funds to meet the necessary demand for the public. But sometimes the city government faces difficulties regarding how public money should be spent. While some people believe that the governments should spend the money mainly on urban services like healthcare, education, and infrastructure, others argue that arts, culture, and entertainment are equally important. This essay will discuss both perspectives before arguing that a balanced approach is the most beneficial for urban residents.
First of all, healthcare, education, and infrastructure are fundamental to citizens' well-being and economic development. It is known to us that healthcare improves public health and life expectancy, and without proper education, a nation cannot achieve success. Secondly, infrastructure, such as roads and public transport, supports economic growth. For a growing nation, economic growth is most important. As a result, investment in healthcare and education directly improves citizens' quality of life while contributing to long-term economic prosperity.
On the other hand, cultural and recreational facilities contribute significantly to a city's attractiveness and residents' well-being. So, for enhancing the quality of urban life, investing in arts, culture, and entertainment is as important as other essential urban services. Museums, theatres, and festivals strengthen cultural identity. Also, entertainment facilities improve mental health and provide a path for generating new ideas. Cultural investment can create new job sectors and help in economic growth. It also upholds a nation's cultural identity, helping it gain recognition worldwide. A city with excellent hospitals and schools but no cultural opportunities may meet basic needs, yet fail to provide a fulfilling urban experience.
In conclusion, although healthcare, education, and infrastructure should be the primary focus of governments, investing funds in arts, culture, and entertainment is also valuable. Therefore, city governments should allocate funds in a balanced manner to address both practical needs and the overall quality of urban life.
